…Introducing Water

Water and I have always had an – interesting –  relationship.

I really enjoy floating in water, being supported by it. I like to splash and play; I like to sink to the bottom and do handstands.

If it’s water I know.

But every body of water, from swimming pool to endless ocean, has a mystery about it that requires careful introduction. The wildness of the waves. The movement, the life, the world underneath that I will never understand. It is absolutely foreign because it is a place I can visit, but never stay in. And I don’t know where has it been, where is it going, with what energies has it interacted.

Meeting new water is a lot like meeting a new person. We’re never really sure what emotions are lurking underneath. We don’t know, at first glance, what past adventures and experiences are influencing her, his, their current actions.

And don’t we all carefully put our best foot forward, testing the water (ha ha) before committing to who we’re going to be with others? Don’t we all have worlds cavorting under the surface that we’re not ready to share with those we just met?

Sitting beside a body of water, staring at waves or ripples or the dancing sun – that I could do all day (with the right amount of sun screen and an adequate supply of bottled water.) But before I dip a toe into any water, literal or metaphorical, I need to get a feel for the energy. For what is living under the surface. For the influences, the elements, the truths that run through it.

When you meet someone new – do you dive right in? Or “wade” to learn more about them? I’d love to hear your perspective!

…a State of Being in Everyday Life

Have you ever looked at a tree?  I mean, just sat and contemplated a tree? Or a flower? Or a stone? These things, these beings of nature just… ARE. They root and they grow, they emit their energies and they rest; they respond to the weather and the nutrients in the soil and they adapt and transform and die and are reborn.

Life is like that. We stand in our soil and we suck in what nutrients we can and we put out our energy and we live and we rest, do and die. And while the physical body does all that daily living stuff, the inside, the core, is as solid as a stone and as beautiful as a flower and as connected as a tree. And we are happy.

At least, that is the practice. The goal. The state of being we desire to experience in every day life. Because Nature isn’t about striving to be the best tree in the forest, or to make our parents proud, or even to get back to its roots. Nature IS its roots. And branches. The leaves that fall. And the fire that burns.

Even in death and destruction – Nature IS. There is no malice, there is no personal. There is struggle. There is joy. There is striving and thriving and dying. But while all this is happening, each part of the cog of Nature’s wheel is contributing by just BEING… true to his Nature; true to her truths. BEING Happy in the deepest, most connected, most unconditionally loved sense of the word.

How we get there is different for each of us. But we have to know what we want before we start the journey.

So, can you feel – if just for a moment – what it is like to be a tree?

Can you feel, just for a moment, your definition of Happy?

Getting Started:

Hello to you! And Welcome to my New Website.

The plan was to publish the site with a beautiful Home Page; a delightfully witty and informative About Me; the Newsletter Sign-Up (with the all important “opt in” prize); and my first, official, explaining Happiness, Pulitzer-winning blog entry.

Instead, we have “Getting Started.” And a basic Home Page. Because in order to edit the website for visual beauty and flow, one has to actually push publish on the pages – at least, that seems the easiest way for this beginner in WordPress. Naturally, every website host/builder is different, so all the things I learned in Blogger will take a while to translate to this new world.

I know transition is the way of my life, and perfection is not even a river in Egypt. And perfection is not really my goal. But, with a new website and a couple of business coaches, I fell back into an old pattern of feeling my future was reliant on an immediate, stunning, first impression.

But that’s not me. And that’s not Happiness. Happiness is more than just the first moment. Happiness is a state of being in EVERY day life.

So, let’s get started… Being.
